I really enjoyed this book and found it to be such a heartwarming, thoughtful read—perfect for a beach day or vacation escape. It combines a little bit of everything: a touch of mystery, emotional depth, and quiet reflections on grief and connection. Plus, an unexpected but charming octopus narrator who adds a completely unique voice to the story.
What really stood out to me was how the characters slowly unfolded and how their paths crossed in meaningful, often surprising ways. There’s a tenderness in the way Van Pelt explores loneliness, healing, and second chances.
The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the ending felt a bit too drawn out. By that point, the direction of the story was clear, and I found myself pushing through just to finish rather than savoring those final pages. I also would’ve loved a deeper dive into the mystery of her son’s disappearance—but I’ll admit, that might be the mystery-lover in me craving more twists.
All in all, a lovely and unique read—maybe not an all-time favorite, but definitely one I’m glad I picked up.
♥️ If I were gifting this to a friend, I’d pair it with:

This Dock and Beach Towel is a great size for a beach towel. It also is fast drying which is perfect for a day out at the beach! You can buy the towel here.

I would also pair it with this shirt! It is so cute and goes perfectly with the beach theme! You can buy the shirt here.
Happy reading!!
